When it comes to monitoring the health of your equipment, mounting vibration sensors correctly is crucial. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the basic steps to mount a sensor on your asset, ensuring it’s ready to collect accurate data once the system is back online. Let’s dive in!
Step 1: Prioritise Health and Safety
Before beginning any work, review and follow all health and safety precautions. Proper safety protocols not only protect you but also contribute to an efficient installation process.
Step 2: Prepare the Mounting Surface
To promote accurate data collection, the mounting points for the sensor must be clean and flat. Inspect the potential mounting locations on the asset. For this guide, we’ll focus on points at the drive end and non-drive end of the machine.
If dirt or debris is lying on the surface, clean the selected area with a microfiber cloth. This ensures proper contact between the sensor’s base (regardless of your choice of sensor mount) and the machine casing.

Step 3: Mount the Sensor at the Desired Point
Choose a Mounting Point: Identify a clean, flat surface on the drive end of the asset.
Check Sensor Orientation:
Top Mount: Align the Y-axis upward and inline with the shaft.

Side Mount: Align the Y-axis upward and the X-axis inline with the shaft.

Attach the Sensor:
Roll the sensor onto the mounting point slowly and securely.
Even if your sensor uses a magnetic base, it’s a good practice to give it a slight wiggle to confirm a stable connection.

Verify the Connection: Ensure there’s minimal movement and a secure fit. This indicates a proper mounting.
Repeat the process above for the remaining Kappa X sensors.

With the sensors mounted at both the drive and non-drive ends:
Verify that all sensors are securely attached and correctly oriented.
Double-check alignment and proximity to the rotating elements.
